Valverde rejects speculation Neymar could return to Barcelona

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has dismissed reports suggesting that Neymar is unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain and is seeking a return back to Camp Nou.

It was quite evident that Neymar wanted to escape Lionel Messi's shadow to make an even bigger name for himself, and thus, traded the sure-shot chance to win major trophies for a possibility to win his first Ballon d'Or.

Many concerns were raised over the summer when Barcelona was forced into a record-breaking transfer deal once the release clause of their Brazilian forward was met. Neymar departing for Paris Saint-Germain was seen as a great loss for Barcelona.

Spanish sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo claims the Brazilian, recovering from surgery on a broken foot in Brazil, has made contact with Barca to ask how he can engineer a return.

Neymar reportedly sent messages to Barca players he considers close friends stating that he could envisage a return to the Camp Nou in 2019.

Mundo Deportivo report that the 26-year-old informed his old club of his wish prior to PSG's Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday.

He now believes the Ligue 1 is inferior to La Liga.

Real Madrid have been the club most persistently linked with a move for Neymar, with Zinedine Zidane talking up the striker just this week.

"[Spanish newspapers] AS has today said €400m (£355m) will be the amount quoted to Real Madrid if PSG are open to sell".

In late February Neymar suffered a broken metatarsal and is now recovering from an operation in Brazil.

His goals have helped the Parisians open up an 11-point gap at the top of Ligue 1 ahead of reigning French champions Monaco, however he is now recovering after breaking a bone in his foot.
