The Obamas might turn TV producers for Netflix

Obama does not plan to use shows to respond directly to President Donald Trump or other critics, but instead to showcase inspirational stories, according to the Times. One could see the former president "moderate conversations on topics that dominated his presidency-health care, voting rights, immigration, foreign policy, climate change".

Another show would involve Michelle and could feature topics that she championed during her time as the first lady.

At present, Netflix is still to comment on the reports and if the Obamas would be paid for their involvement.

Former President Barack Obama and Michelle arrive at the Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago on October 31, 2017.

Former New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson revealed in a column last week that she carries a plastic Barack Obama doll in her purse as a way to comfort herself in the Donald Trump era. Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better.

The streaming service's mix of original drama, films and other programming has proved popular globally, with subscriber numbers reaching almost 118 million at the end of 2017.

A deal between Netflix and the Obamas would be huge for the streaming service.

The online streaming service has managed to entice several popular TV fixtures to sign on recently including the likes of Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, plus a string of popular comedians and filmmakers.

A deal would be a win-win situation for both parties, at least on paper. He says Netflix may offer the former first couple $500 million. "It depends what it is, what that program is, what it it [related] to a foundation or charity work? But it'll still be a big deal".
