Sultan Azlan Shah Cup: Ireland beat India to clinch 3-2 win

India thus got consolation revenge for the 2-3 loss to Ireland in their last league stage match on Friday which had eliminated their already slim chances of qualifying for the medal rounds.

Although the Indian team lost the match, the young Indian team gave an impressive performance and tried to restrict the Olympic Gold Medalists.

India's tactics were spot on from the starting whistle and they earned back-to-back penalty corners in the fifth minute.

Ramandeep Singh scored a goal in the 10th minute, which was later equalised by the Ireland's Shane O'Donog, who scored a field goal in the 24th minute.

The world's top-ranked team finished the tournament, which included Commonwealth Games opponents England, Malaysia and India, with six wins from six games.

India's next match was against England and they were looking forward to their first win in that match. India's next goal came off Gurjant Singh in the 37th minute.

Amit Rohidas' penalty corner drag found the net to hand India control for the second time.

A foot foul by defender Dipsan Tirkey saw India concede a penalty corner only 15 seconds prior to the half-time hooter but Suraj Karkera was on top of his job to keep India's lead.

The young lad from Sundergarh, Odisha ensured he didn't miss out on the opportunity as he beat Ireland's goalkeeper Jamie Carr, doubling India's lead to 2-0.

India's next goal came off Gurjant in the 37th minute.

Though India had more circle entries, they could not make much of it thanks to Carr's attentiveness at the goalpost.

Ramandeep Singh's penalty corner put India ahead against the Irish but O'Donoghue levelled matters when he slammed home a Kirk Shimmins cross. But Varun's effort was deflected by Irish rushers.

Australia won their game against Ireland with some ease and were 2-0 up after just 14 minutes with Jake Whetton scoring from play and Daniel Beale extending the lead three minutes later.
