Sarah Jessica Parker weighs in on Cynthia Nixon's NY governor bid

On Thursday, Sarah Jessica Parker announced on Instagram that she would support Nixon in her run for NY governor, writing "A mother".

Former Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon is the latest politician to turn a critic's derogatory slam into a rallying cry for supporters.

"Cynthia has been my friend and colleague since we were little girls", she said through a spokeswoman.

Nixon received rousing endorsement from another "SATC" alum Kristin Davis, who tweeted in support of the actor the day she announced her campaign.

She's got a point: While Nixon has been fairly active as an advocate for public education and lobbied for marriage equality (and she hits all the progressive marks when it comes to reproductive rights, criminal justice reform, immigration, etc.), if we've learned anything in the past year, being famous on television does not qualify one to hold public office.

She is challenging incumbent Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic nomination for governor.

"My sister on and off screen, you have my love, support and vote", Parker wrote, encouraging people to read about Nixon on her website.

"Sex and the City" costume designer Patricia Field told Page Six that Nixon "is an original".

"New York is where I was raised and where I'm raising my kids", she said in an ad announcing her candidacy.

SJP on Thursday posted a photo of Nixon to Instagram with a caption offering her full-throated support.

Cuomo is fighting for $550 million in state funding for the New York City Housing Authority. "We worked on an incredible series for many years together, and my colleagues' ongoing support for my years of activism, and now my campaign, means a lot to me".
