Rodgers says Rangers need to win Old Firm derby

Brendan Rodgers' defending champions will travel to Rangers looking to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Manager Graeme Murty added: "We are delighted that Alfredo has committed his future to the club today".

"But the first part of that journey is overcoming Celtic and that's why Sunday's game is such a big game for them". But with Celtic expected to play a 3-5-2 formation, Murty will most likely look to keep another body in midfield in a bid to keep the game tight and compact.

RANGERS skipper Lee Wallace remains a game-time decision after playing a friendly last weekend ahead of his long-awaited comeback from hip surgery. "We're still chasing them and whether we chase them down or not won't just be on this one game - it will be on the games after it, so we have to make sure that what we do, from Sunday, is put ourselves in as good a position as possible but we have to continue our improvement, because we're not the finished article as yet". Docherty is a boyhood Rangers fan, so knows what it means to the fans to see a player being tough in the tackle and composed on the ball in these fixtures - two major strengths in his game.

The last meeting between the sides ended in a goalless draw at Celtic Park just before the New Year.

"The game itself is a wonderful game and I'm lucky enough to have been involved in eight of them", Rodgers said. The second time they were talking about the managerial situation. We'll work some elements of where we can hurt them and prepare really well for that and go there with confidence. Maybe it was perceived that we wanted to take them on, but I don't think the boys were being over confident. Docherty also has the most assists of any Scottish player in the SPFL this season, so can offer plenty going forward too. We are a different kind of team and I would say our people in form are capable of causing anyone a problem.
