Michael Porter Jr. Will Play in SEC Tournament After Back Injury

Highly touted freshman Michael Porter Jr. will reportedly play for Missouri in its SEC tourney opener Thursday, head coach Cuonzo Martin said Wednesday.

Porter was on the court for just two minutes in Mizzou's season opener against Iowa State in November before he left with a hip injury.

In that game, Porter's versatility and playmaking was on display.

Porter will not be in the starting lineup but is expected to come off the bench. "I feel good about it'".

Missouri plays the victor of the Georgia and Vanderbilt Thursday at the SEC Tournament in St. Louis. It had to be completely up to him, to say, 'Coach, I'm completely ready to go.

His back injury made it likely Porter would elect not to return in 2017-18, as he is still slated as a projected lottery pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

A few minutes before, when three Missouri players took the podium, it did not sound like they knew Porter was planning to play. "Unless the trainer or Mike says otherwise, he's playing".

CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported on February 22 that Porter received full clearance from doctors to resume basketball activities. Missouri finished with a 20-11 regular season record without Porter.

Porter Jr. was one of the nation's top recruits and committed to MU one year ago.
