Maryland State Police to increase patrols, checkpoints for St. Patrick's Day weekend

Patrick's Day weekend in 2016, nine people were killed and 499 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes statewide.

It's nearly St. Patrick's Day, meaning more corned beef and cabbage, green beer and a heightened police presence.

This enforcement campaign is done in partnership with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Cleveland County Sheriff's Office and ENDUI Oklahoma. "If you drive impaired, you risk your life and the lives of others on the road", said CHP Commissioner Warren Stanley.

On an average weekend in South Lake Tahoe, several people end up in jail on DUI charges, and local law enforcement will be on the lookout to keep those numbers down. "By not drinking and driving, you can help yourself and the Colorado State Patrol by being a force for good within your community".

Authorities recommend either designating a sober driver before partaking in any celebrations or to use alternate transportation, such as Uber, Lyft or a taxi service.

We're told if you decide to go out, make you sure have a plan for a safe and sober driver.

Remember, you can be held liable if someone you served alcohol to ends up in an impaired-driving crash. The goal will be to locate impaired drivers and to promote public awareness of the dangers of driving impaired.

There are many other ways to ensure a safe ride home besides relying on a friend. The Joplin police wants drivers to realize that driving impaired is not worth these consequences.
