Man hurls shoe at former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif, bedlam ensues

The incident happened when Sharif arrived to attend an event at the Jamia Naeemia seminary in Garhi Shahu.

Nawaz Sharif was last month also barred from leading a political party following his disqualification by the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers scandal in July past year.

Shahbaz Sharif paid tributes to the leadership qualities of Nawaz Sharif, and said he would seek guidance from him in the discharge of his responsibilities.

Nawaz made Pakistan's defence "invincible" through atomic weapons, rejected $5 billion aid from the U.S. and built motorways, he said.

The committee had also elected Nawaz as lifetime Quaid of the party.

He was visibly upset over PML-N's embarrassing defeat in March 12 Senate elections that saw opposition candidate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani elected as Chairman of the Parliament's Upper House.

"The world knows that our leader has been persecuted and discriminated against", he said.

Nawaz Sharif said that he was ousted over his struggle for the revival of sanctity of the vote, adding that he isn't involved in any wrongdoings.

Addressing the Central General Council meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, the former prime minister asked, "Is this the new Pakistan?"

Sharif said his government initiated multiple projects and laid out the network of motorways.

He confessed that he does not wish to inaugurate development projects now as he, too, is only human.

"I am a human too", he said, adding that his heart has been broken by the mistreatment allegedly meted out to him.

Meanwhile, the court has also disposed of petitions against Federal Minister for Privatisation Daniyal Aziz, Federal Minister for Railways Saad Rafique, ex-PM Yousaf Raza Gillani and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan.

"People will avenge those who are behind this act by voting in favour of Nawaz Sharif in the general election", she asserted.

She went on criticizing Imran Khan for promoting the abusive language culture in Pakistani Politics.

"Who are they. What are their services to the country". "We are not the ones to compromise. we are not the ones to sell Pakistan for our own benefit".

Shehbaz thanked Nawaz, his brother, for entrusting the important party position to him.

The Punjab CM had submitted his nomination form to the party's election commission earlier in the day. The point is towards the recent events of ink throwing and shoes hurling at the leaders of PML-N.

The apex court ruled that a person disqualified under Article 62 and 63 can not serve as the head of a political party.

The election would take place at 4 p.m. on Monday.
