Man Accused of Breaking Rand Paul's Ribs Pleads Guilty

"The first "conversation" with the attacker came after Senator Paul's ribs were broken".

Prosecutors led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bradley Shepard, though, are seeking a prison sentence of 21 months.

Paul, a former presidential candidate, was attacked November 3 while mowing his lawn at his home.

Rene Boucher, Paul's 59-year-old neighbor, pleaded guilty to a government charge of ambushing an individual from Congress bringing about individual damage.

His attorney Matt Baker says the retired physician is ready to put the ordeal behind him.

Sentencing was set for June 15.

Boucher's felony conviction is punishable by up to ten years in prison.

"He is anticipating acquiring an entire determination", Baker said. "He and his neighbor have had a long-standing disagreement, and it just finally boiled over. this yard issue".

Boucher has agreed to pay restitution to Paul in an amount that will be determined at sentencing. The conditions include that Boucher have no contact with Paul or the senator's family. A friend of Paul's said the senator had gotten off his riding mower to remove a limb when he was tackled from behind.

"The Pauls have had no conversations with him in many years", senior adviser Doug Stafford said last year.

Boucher has explained that the attack was not politically motivated, but was merely over a property dispute.
