Galaxy S9 DxOMark score is the highest so far

If camera performance is your top priority when shopping a smartphone-and really, who the heck buys a smartphone to make actual calls these days?

Cameras are one of the fate deciders for a smartphone these days.

Diving into some numbers, the Galaxy S9+ achieved integer and floating point scores of 3734 and 3440, respectively, in its single-core Geekbench 4 test.

DxOMark credits this impressive score to two features enabled by the Galaxy S9 Plus camera: Dual Aperture and a Super Speed Dual Pixel Sensor.

In a number of tests - such as web browsing, writing, data manipulation, and photo editing - the Galaxy S9's Exynos 9810 consistently delivered worse results than the aforementioned chips and devices, which is weird considering that tests run on the chip itself showed significant improvements over 2017's Exynos chip (that powered the S8, S8+, and even Note 8 smartphones).

Samsung's new devices boast improved camera function and were unveiled on the eve of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, earlier in the week.

"The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is a smartphone without any real weaknesses in the camera department", DxOMark concludes. DxO especially praised Samsung for things like controlling the digital noise in images regardless of the amount of light available, as well as the resolution available when zooming at up to 4x. If you're unsure which model you have, the Samsung Galaxy S8 in the US runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and not Samsung's in-house Exynos chip, so the notes are for an worldwide model. That all translates to the best-looking screen you can get on a smartphone. At the same time pre-orders for the new flagship phone have begun well ahead of its March 16 release date. At 91 points, the video score is a little lower but still among the very best, delivering very good sub-scores all around.

According to the latest ratings, DxO has given the Samsung Galaxy S9+ an overall rating of 99. The S9 scored a 104 in photo taking as it produces excellent results in all light conditions. We'll see if the competition can follow suit.
