Federation Internationale de Football Association announces referees' list of 2018 World Cup

Three Russian specialists were included in the list of 36 referees and 63 assistant referees selected to officiate at matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in Russia this summer, the FIFA said in its statement on Thursday.

GENEVA (AP) - Four of the eight countries whose national leagues use FIFA-approved video review will not have match officials working at the World Cup.

There has been a British official at every World Cup since the Second World War, with Howard Webb refereeing the 2010 final and also refereeing matches in Brazil in 2014. The same referees were provisionally selected in November.

He referred to FIFA President Joseph Blatter's announcement in 2010 about the 2018 World Cup taking place in Russia, something that Nathan claimed was followed by a series of alleged violations of global law by Moscow, including the poisoning of ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Britain on March 4.

"I am proud to be the first referee to represent Qatar in a World Cup", Al Marri tweeted today.

The officials, chosen from 46 countries, will attend a two-week seminar at the Italian Football Association's base in Coverciano next month.

He was named Caf assistant referee in the 2017 Fifa Confederations Cup and featured in a similar capacity in the 2012, 2013 and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations as well as at Chan (African Nations Championship) competitions, Under-17 World Cup, CAF Under-23 Championship and the Fifa Club World Cup. No English officials were picked.

Egyptian officials Ali Kandil, Mostafa Kamel Mahmoud and Gamal El-Ghandour had also refereed at previous World Cups.

Ravshan Irmatov of Uzbekistan will work at his third World Cup, and should extend his all-time competition record of handling nine games.
