English FA Says Yellow Ribbon "Political'', Fines Guardiola"

English FA Says Yellow Ribbon

Guardiola recently won his first trophy for the Citizens, who beat Arsenal 3-0 in the EFL Cup final on February 25, while also reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals this week at the expense of Basel.

Leroy Sane was one of few regular starters retained in Guardiola's starting XI and continued his supreme form by creating the opener.

Guardiola has continually sported the ribbon in City's English Premier League matches as well as games in domestic and European cup competitions.

He said (via Marca): "From tomorrow we'll be happy to have qualified, but in the second half we forgot to attack and forgot to play, to pass the ball". "He felt he needed rhythm - when you are out for a long time, you need rhythm to come back and for his confidence it will be good".

"I reviewed the game and we did quite well, well enough to go through".

The Spaniard said: "I don't like to play on Monday because over the weekend everybody is involved and when the weekend is over, they are like, "the weekend is over, there are no more games", but we have to play".

"We were lucky last season to win there".

"I am disappointed because we missed a lot of chances and because the team deserved more".

"Any team that makes six changes may have problems but in the second-half, we thought we had finished the game".

'Obviously we won't have much of the ball, but when we do, we have to be ruthless with it and try to hurt them, and take them out of their comfort zone.

"What is going to happen in the quarter-finals depend on our level in the Premier League and in the Premier League it can help us in the quarter-finals".

"When the opportunity comes for me, I'll do my best and I'm sure that they'll support me". To win against a team who are beating one team after another every three days is very special.

However, Mohamed Elyounoussi exposed some slack City defending to smash in an equaliser for the Swiss champions nine minutes later before Michael Lang rocketed home a spectacular victor 19 minutes from time.
