Donald Trump fires personal assistant Johnny McEntee amid 'financial crimes' investigation

A longtime personal aide to Donald Trump was abruptly fired and escorted from the White House Monday afternoon, only to be hired immediately by Trump's 2020 presidential campaign, according to multiple media reports and a campaign statement.

And it highlights the extent to which the re-election campaign has already become a landing pad for former Trump associates who have left the White House but remain loyal to the President. "The White House's ongoing obstruction of congressional oversight appears to be an attempt to hide from the American people pervasive and widespread dysfunction inside the White House, which directly threatens our nation's security". ABC News has also previously reported that White House Chief of Staff John Kelly wanted to see a list of remaining White House staffers with security clearance issues.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the ouster of McEntee happened so quickly that someone had to go back into the White House and grab McEntee's jacket for him after he was removed from the grounds.

A White House spokesman declined to comment on McEntee's firing. McEntee's role was described as "body man", always staying by Trump's side.

His swift departure comes amid a series of security clearance issues in the White House.

Axios's Jonathan Swan touched on how devastating this will be for morale inside the White House. His staff secretary, Rob Porter, resigned February 7 after reports that two ex-wives had accused him of domestic violence.

The senior assistant press secretary, brought on by Priebus, resigned after Scaramucci said he was going to fire him for allegedly leaking to the press. Pierson worked for the 2016 campaign as a spokesperson.
