Children killed in Park Slope crash ID'd; witnesses question driver's medical claim

Blumenstein's daughter Abigail and Lew's 1-year-old son Joshua were killed when an out-of-control driver slammed into them in a Park Slope crosswalk.

Tony-winning actress Ruthie Ann Miles was among those injured and her 4-year-old daughter was killed, as was a 1-year-old boy, Deadline reports.

Ruthie was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, and she's said to be in stable condition, the New York Post reports. Lauren Lew, mother of Joshua, and a 46-year-old man were also injured and hospitalized.

The pedestrians were at an intersection in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn when a vehicle driven by a 44-year-old woman ran the red light.

"The vehicle continued forward and struck a parked and unoccupied auto before coming to a stop", said the NYPD in a statement.

Police said the woman attempted to leave the scene of the horrifying crash but was stopped by witnesses.

Witnesses tell the NY Daily News Joshua's stroller was dragged by Bruns' vehicle for nearly an entire block. They had to cut her coat off, " bystander Leah Finnegan said of Blumenstein. She is believed to have had a seizure, according to law enforcement, and investigators are now looking at her medical records to determine if she should have been driving in the first place. "She was just kind of, 'Oh, God, this can't be happening". "No emotion. Not sad".

Witness Debbie LaSalle was crossing the same intersection when she saw the Volvo speed by, she told the Daily News.

"Upon arrival, officers encountered two adult females and two children, a male and a female, on the pavement with various injuries to their heads and bodies", the statement reads.

Miles is a Tony victor for The King and I who has also been seen onstage in Sunday in the Park with George and Here Lies Love.

Miles is best known for her performance as Lady Thiang in the 2015 Broadway revival of The King and I, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

"Yesterday they helped me recover #3500 lost photos/videos (mostly of Abby from birth-2yo!)" the mom wrote.

She graduated from Kaimuki High School and studied theatre at Southern Oregon University. Her daughter Abigail was killed.
