Switch Owners will get an Outdated Version of Payday 2

Starbreeze StudiosThe only thing standing between the "Payday" gang and the paycheck of a lifetime is a horde of angry police officers.

Payday 2 will debut on Nintendo Switch on February 27, while the game's ultimate edition released a year ago on PC.

The revelation came after an early recipient of the game reportedly streamed the game. That has resulted in speculation that the Nintendo Switch version is running on Update 117 which the developer had released in October 2016, which, for comparison's sake, is far behind the PC version which is on Update 172. However, the hybrid console's version of the game will be an outdated one being over 8 months behind the version now available on PC.

But the 3DS is home to a lot of games with long sales legs.

Publisher Starbreeze confirmed to Polygon that the Switch version is running the Most Wanted update, which released in June, 2017 on PC.

Not to worry, Switch owners. "Spending gains were driven by Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 hardware sales growth". Starbreeze noted that the reason they went with an older version so that it could release the game for Switch in such an early timeframe, in time for the fifth anniversary of the series.

It's unclear if the recent statements will do anything to quell gamer's anger.

Despite no major retail releases for Switch, it continued to lead United States system sales into the first month of the year. Given their track Record, Overkill will most likely drop it like a hot potato just like the other console versions, ' read one Reddit post.

Confusion ballooned when a Reddit thread speculated about Switch getting an older version of the game.
