Nokia 8 gets better with Android 8.1 Oreo

Nokia 8 gets better with Android 8.1 Oreo

In our review of the phone past year, we said "It's easy to imagine an alternate reality where another, lesser, version of this device coasts along on the novelty of the Nokia brand".

According to the information received by NokiaPowerUser from their retail sources in India, HMD Global is going to launch Nokia 1, Nokia 6 (2018), and, Nokia 9 (which is also called Nokia 8 Sirocco) in the country from April onwards.

The newest Oreo update includes features such as battery saving navigation buttons, revamped Power menu, Bluetooth battery percentage, and a new Setting menu, as per the changelog.

Out of these three, Nokia 6 (2018) has already been launched in China earlier this year with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. For the unaware, Google released the Android 8.1 Oreo update to its Pixel and Nexus devices back at the end of December 2017. The emoji fix was one of the changes introduced in Android 8.1 release. The phone is expected to be unveiled alongside the Nokia 9, Nokia 7 Plus and the Android Go edition Nokia 1.

The update is rolling out over the air and so it'll take a few days before all Nokia 8 units get the notification. "There's so much more to like about the Nokia 8 than just the mere nostalgia factor behind it".

Coming to the specs of the Nokia 6 (2018), it features a 5.5-inch full HD 1080p display and a more sophisticated design than its predecessor. The Nokia 8 is backed by a 3,090mAh battery and supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging.

At the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2018 later this month, HMD Global is expected to launch a range of Nokia-branded devices. We will let you know once the update is out for other devices.
