Daman & Diu gets air link, slew of schemes during PM visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the flight service between Diu and Ahmedabad in a bid to give a major boost to tourism in the union territory.

Modi added, "The people visiting Daman from South Gujarat and Maharashtra will be able to fly to Diu, Gir and Somnath in the helicopter". Ahmedabad to Diu road journey takes 12 hours and the air connectivity cuts the travel time to just an hour.

On the occasion, he distributed e-rickshaws to women and scooters to differently-abled beneficiaries.

He also said that the PM should also assure the country that the RBI will conduct a forensic audit of all swift communications and swift messages matching them with underlying transactions within 60 days and that report will be made public.

Praising the UT on emerging out top in cleanliness drive, Modi in his speech said, "I urge the people of Daman to continue giving topmost importance to cleanliness".

Modi lauded Daman for being an open defecation free area and congratulated the locals and administration for achieving the "big step".

Modi launched housing and food schemes for industrial labourers of this industrialised town.

The Prime Minister further said that provided the fact that MSMEs form the backbone country's economy, it is important to uphold the MSMEs. "It has increased to 3.1% in the four years of our government".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday said the micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector is the backbone of the India economy and the government is committed to promote this sector. The Prime Minister will inaugurate projects worth Rs 1,000 crores and address a public meeting.

He inaugurated a redeveloped beach and a revamped bird sanctuary in Diu, a coastal town.

Modi laid foundation tones for projects including a water treatment, an electric sub-station, a municipal market, a footbridge among others.
