Comey had secret assembly with Obama simply earlier than Trump inauguration

As she prepared to leave the White House, Rice sent the email as an eternal testament to the Obama White House's regard for process.

The Senators have requested more information from Rice about the email, including whether anyone instructed her to write the email memorializing Obama's meeting with Comey and Yates.

The Senate Committee on the Judiciary is scheduled to hear testimony from Rice on February 22.

The email has raised interest among congressional investigators because it was sent on Rice's last day in office, January 20, 2017, and appeared to frame the meeting in a particular way.

"Yet Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen".

In the email, Obama's national security adviser wrote: "President Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities 'by the book.' The president stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective".

"It strikes us as odd that, among your activities in the final moments on the final day of the Obama administration, you would feel the need to send yourself such an unusual email purporting to document a conversation involving President Obama and his interactions with the FBI regarding the Trump/Russia investigation", Grassley and Graham wrote in a Monday letter to Rice.

Or was the email Rice addressed to herself not actually for herself?

"I mean, this is the same Barack Obama who told [Fox News"] Chris Wallace he didn't talk to anybody in the Justice Department about any of the investigations, and yet we know the [text] from Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, the two FBI people whose texts we've seen hundreds of times: "POTUS (written in 2016 so the reference is to Barack Obama) wants to know all about this'".

When did you first become aware of the FBI's investigation into allegations of collusion between Mr. Trump's associates and Russian Federation?

Recent revelations indicate that the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained a warrant to eavesdrop on Carter Page, a former volunteer adviser to the Trump campaign, by referencing a dossier prepared by former British spy Christopher Steele as part of opposition research on Trump.

The origins of the Russian Federation meddling probe have come under mounting scrutiny on Capitol Hill, where Republicans are looking at how an unverified anti-Trump dossier was used to seek a surveillance warrant against Trump associate Carter Page in late 2016. A House Intelligence Committee memo released on February 2 shows that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and DOJ hid the source and financiers of the allegations contained in the dossier from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court-a criminal offense.

Senators Grassley and Graham have sent a letter to former National Security Advisor Susan Rice asking her to explain an email which they clearly believe is highly suspicious.

But Rice, after a section that remains classified, indicated Obama discussed sharing the information with the incoming Trump administration.

A source familiar with the content of the meeting that it had nothing to do with Steele nor the dossier, but rather how the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the intelligence community had to handle relations with the Trump transition team in light of the Russian Federation probe.

Or perhaps Rice left the meeting feeling jittery about the White House's involvement in an investigation concerning a successor Obama had repeatedly said was unfit for office.
