Anfernee McLemore suffers season-ending injury in loss at SC

The sophomore suffered a dislocated ankle, fractured tibia and some torn ligaments during the Tigers' loss at SC on Saturday.

"They play as a reflection of their coach, Frank Martin", Pearl said. He averages 7.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game on the season. "It hurt for him", junior forward Desean Murray said.

Even in a game where his team was down by 24 points in the first half, Bruce Pearl's duties as a head coach at Auburn changed immediately. We got to continue to regroup and find a way to score. The Gamecocks wound up with the 84-75 win at home.

Following the game, Auburn revealed that McLemore will have surgery Sunday to fix the damage, and Bruce Pearl released the following statement.

"It's a tough one to lose because we're already very small and very thin on our front line and now we lose our shot-blocking and 3-point shooting five-man". Chuma Okeke added 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench.

Mustapha Heron led Auburn with 16 points, just four of those coming in the second half.

Bryce Brown missed his first eight 3-point attempts and finished 2-of-13 from beyond the arc, scoring 10 points.

But South Carolina scored the next seven points to restore the double-digit lead, and Auburn could get no closer than six points the rest of the way.

McLemore had a teammate fall into his lower leg, causing his left foot to turn in a direction it was not meant to. With Austin Wiley ineligible, McLemore has been the Tigers' most consistent interior presence. They've beaten three top-25 opponents in No. 18 Kentucky, No. 20 Florida and now, the 10th-ranked Tigers.

Auburn has not provided any update on McLemore's status. SC will need to channel the effort against Auburn if it hopes to make some noise down the stretch. The trio was around at practice on Friday and lit into the Gamecocks for their poor play at times this season. "And it carried over". Holden missed the past 11 games with a hamstring injury. The Tigers actually rebounded to get back in the game by the end.
