Christopher Ruddy, a Trump friend and president of the conservative media outlet Newsmax, agreed with that assessment, although he said he has not spoken with the president since Kelly made his remarks.

"The Wall is the Wall", President Donald Trump tweeted out Thursday morning.

During the campaign, Trump supporters cheered when he loudly promised a barrier along the 2,000-mile U.S. -Mexico frontier to keep out drug smugglers and undocumented immigrants and have Mexico pay for it.

Kelly has repeatedly said that he doesn't pay attention to the president's tweets.

Trump ended legal protection for Dreamers past year, giving Congress until March to create a replacement programme.

The word "uniformed" particularly rankled the president who is commonly known to think of himself as a genius and doesn't like the idea that there are things he doesn't know.
