Weekend Box Office Report: 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Remains Leader

Worldwide, the film has grossed over one billion dollars!

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the third-fastest film to hit the $1 billion mark ever.

The eighth installment in the Star Wars science-fiction franchise earned an estimated $52-million for a third straight first-place finish at the holiday box office.

Then came Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the inaugural spin-off set in the larger universe of Star Wars.

Surprisingly, Sony's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has proven to have legs at the box office, just narrowly being beaten out by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in USA theaters on December 15, 2017. The film earned $230 in its first three days in foreign markets. The gain came despite a 2.3% slide in U.S. box office, slammed by the worst summer in a decade as worldwide box office jumped 5%. The Last Jedi opened to a combined $450 million worldwide.

The Last Jedi won't open in China, the largest global market, until January. The Force Awakens is now the third highest grossing film ever made and it was largely fueled by the being the first significant Star Wars release in years and it also featured the return of the original cast. 31, which puts it at a domestic total of $517 million. Star Wars: The Last Jedi also has a 4.06 out of 5 User Rating. With strong word of mouth from both critics and audiences, the film is aimed at the sort of family audiences that "Star Wars" hopes to keep coming into the theaters as kids are out of school on winter break. So, Disney has always been making money off of Star Wars but it's still an impressive benchmark for the movies.
