Teenager Arrested After Four Shot Dead In New Jersey Home

A 16-year-old boy opened fire on his entire family in their New Jersey home on New Year's Eve, killing four people, including his parents and his 18-year-old sister.

A teenager in New Jersey was taken into police custody after his parents, sister and a family acquaintance were found dead inside the family's home late on Sunday, the Monmouth County prosecutor said in a statement on Monday. The prosecutor said the teen's grandfather and brother were not targeted and left the home unharmed.

The Long Branch Police Department and Monmouth County prosecutor posted on their Twitter accounts early Monday that a homicide investigation is underway.

The suspect, who has not been named, was arrested without incident, the statement said. He will also be charged with the posession of a weapon for an unlawful objective, according to the county's prosecutor, Chris Gramiccioni.

The teenager is expected to be charged with four counts of murder. Officials arrived on the scene after receiving a 911 call about shots fired at the house around 15 minutes before midnight, according to a news release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

A motive for the shooting is not known. "Thankfully it was uneventful", Gramiccioni said of the arrest, as reported by the New York Daily News.
