Spurs Reportedly Tried 'Really Hard' to Acquire Kyrie Irving

However, the Spurs [VIDEO]didn't have the pieces to interest the Cavaliers to trade Irving to them.

Entering this game, Irving is averaging a career-high 24.8 points, while James is also putting out career-bests 27.7 points, 9.2 assists and 8.1 rebounds per game, while playing nearly 31 minutes a game.

He scored a career-high 25.2 points per game in Cleveland last season and was averaging 24.8 points a night in 2017-18 coming into Wednesday's victory over the Cavaliers.

"I'm always concerned about other teams getting better and better", James said after Wednesday's loss.

None of the teams made a formal offer, but news of this potential transaction stung Irving, who, sources close to him say, became convinced that LeBron's camp, which also represents Bledsoe, orchestrated the trade talks.

The Celtics edged the Cavs for first place in the East, only to be obliterated in five games by Cleveland in the conference finals. "The [Thomas] injury affected them a lot". Kyrie Irving was on the Cavs with James at the time.

Against the Celtics last night, James was the best player on the night for the Cavaliers, scoring 19 points with seven rebounds and six assists, but this wasn't enough to help his team win.

While Boston is reaping the benefits of the Irving trade, Cleveland has yet to do the same.

Rookie Ben Simmons scored 26 points on 8-of-18 shooting, center Joel Embiid tallied a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, JJ Redick added 20 points and Dario Saric had 15 markers as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Spurs, 112-106, Wednesday.

So when James was asked if Irving had grown, he said "It's two guys on the ball, you've got to give the ball up".

In the meantime, the defending Eastern champs simply don't sound alarmed. "As long as we make the playoffs, we're fine".
