SpaceX to launch 'most powerful rocket in the world' this month

SpaceX is now planning to attempt the first launch of its Falcon Heavy rocket around the end of this month, the company's chief executive said January 4.

SpaceX will launch its biggest rocket known as the Falcon Heavy by the end of this month, the company's Chief Executive Elon Musk announced on social media a few days back.

"Hold-down test fire next week".

The Falcon 9 rocket's reusable first stage will attempt a controlled landing at Landing Zone 1 (LZ1) at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

For the test flight, the rocket will not carry a customer's payload.

SpaceX said extreme weather slowed down operations, causing the delay.

Space X claims the Falcon Heavy is the "most powerful rocket in the world by a factor of two".

"There's a lot of risk associated with the Falcon Heavy", he told SpaceNews. In December, Musk announced the rocket would carry his own Tesla Roadster sports auto on a trajectory that would take it past the planet Mars. SpaceX had originally planned for this launch in November of past year.

"Excitement on launch day guaranteed, one way or another", he wrote on Instagram.
