Shorthanded Spurs look to keep winning ways going versus Lakers

Brandon Ingram scored 26 points, Lonzo Ball added 18 and the Lakers held off the short-handed San Antonio Spurs 93-81 on Thursday night for their third straight victory. Bryn Forbes also had one of his best games of the season with 18 points on 58.3 percent shooting.

LOS ANGELES - Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard said he hopes to be back in action soon after missing the last three games with a strained left shoulder.

The Lakers racked up 15 steals, including five by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and four by Ball. "We got close a couple of times, but then we would turn it over some more due to [the Lakers'] defensive pressure".

The tempo of the game sped up with Brook Lopez and Hawks J. Collins making two blocks each.

The most recent case comes from San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, widely known for his oft-hilarious, unabashed candor.

Granted we have heard little from management themselves, they would be hard-pressed to put this kind of information out to the public before they make sure all of their business is in order. "I thought in that sense, we were pathetic".

But this moment, like all the others that have already ensnared these two young floor generals, will be a snapshot, a milestone on the way to stardom for a pair of point-guard prodigies who figure to see plenty of one another in the years to come.

San Antonio recovered from an 11-point halftime lead to take a 53-52 lead on a 3-pointer by Forbes with 6:42 left in the third quarter. He, too, has a triple-double (21 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists vs. the New Orleans Pelicans), but tallied seven turnovers in the same game. They understand what wins and loses, what they have to do to get an advantage and really understand the game, which he does.

The Spurs' leading bench scorer at 11.5 points per game, Gay is slated to miss his eighth consecutive game Saturday.

I think everybody should take a page from Popovich, who clearly thinks nothing of what LaVar has to say, and brush it off and move on. "It's just another fan from the peanut gallery". I love playing for him.

And I will drive you there, get you on the plane and get you seated.' He laughed, (and) I said, 'But short of that, I'm your best buddy, because you're here for another year, and you ain't going nowhere.

"You want to know what people are saying behind the scenes?"

The Lakers, 14-27, are en route to Dallas for a matchup against the Mavericks tomorrow night, followed by road games in Memphis and Oklahoma City next week.
