'Red Sparrow' Trailer Teases Manipulative, Dangerous Jennifer Lawrence

Following a brief promo that aired during Golden Globes Sunday, 20th Century Fox released a full-length trailer for Red Sparrow.

Francis Lawrence turned around the Hunger Games franchise in a big way, with a nice mix of cinematic artistry and and genre movie pulpiness. Lawrence's next movie is something very different-it's an espionage thriller titled Red Sparrow in which she plays a deadly Russian assassin. A prima ballerina whose ferocity has pushed her body and mind to the absolute limit.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, who previously worked with the Oscar-winning actress on the Hunger Games films, the movie also features an eclectic cast: Jeremy Irons, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker and Matthias Schoenaerts.

Willing to do anything to protect her mother, Dominika goes along with it. A secretive Russian intelligence agency exploits Dominika's dire situation, pressing her into service. Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) is forced away from her family and forced to join the Red Sparrows, a group of men and women trained to use seduction and psychological manipulation in order to kill the enemy. After much torture and the "sadistic training process" of the Sparrow School, Dominika comes out the most risky Sparrow the school has ever produced. But when Dominika takes the field as a double agent, soon hooking up with an American CIA mole (Edgerton), she comes to question everything she's become. Then she finds herself in a life-threatening situation where she must call upon all she has learned.

I just hope that she's allowed to show more emotion than Charlize Theron did in Atomic Blonde. Watch the new trailer above. When she develops feelings for one of her targets, a C.I.A. agent (Joel Edgerton), she is tempted to become a traitor to Mother Russia.
