Led by Alviti, seniors shine bright in Music City Bowl win

Benny Snell and Paddy Fisher were both ejected.

Johnson is synonymous with toughness, Coach Mark Stoops said of the junior college transfer, who finished ninth in school history with 4,342 passing yards despite haveing just a two-year career.

United Kingdom kept Northwestern in check until their 3rd possession of the game. He ran for 224 yards and three touchdowns in last year's bowl win and already has over 5,000 rushing yards.

Here's what Stephen Johnson and Tavin Richardson had to say about that final play.

He finished the regular season tied at 30th nationally in rushing yards with Memphis' Darrell Henderson with 1,154 yards and nine TDs. Pascal replaced the suspended defensive lineman Denzil Ware in the starting lineup.

United Kingdom would stop Northwestern on its first possession of the final quarter. If Richardson hauls in the pass from Johnson, we are having a completely different conversation but that wasn't the case.

United Kingdom got the ball first and quickly scored. Jeremy Larkin busted through the Kentucky front seven and gained 28 yards on a first-down run. After he caught Justin Jackson's 12-yard touchdown pass to give Northwestern the lead in the eventual triple overtime win against Michigan State, Skowronek went on to add touchdown receptions against Purdue and Minnesota, giving him 5 on the season. One forced fumble late in the third quarter led to a Keith Ford touchdown that, at 42-41, gave A&M its first lead of the game since the middle of the first quarter.

Thorson got injured on a trick play, the type NU rarely tries.

Once again it was Wake's turn for a comeback, with a 13-play, 69-yard drive capped by Matt Colburn's one-yard touchdown run with just north of two minutes left proving to be the winning score.

DEFENSE: A. The NU defense got a big break when star United Kingdom running back Benny Snell, Jr., got booted for making contact with an official in the second quarter. A flag was thrown for coming in contact with an official and Snell was disqualified. An official came to help Snell up off the ground, but Snell pushed the official's hands away and got up on his own.

'Juice' Johnson got into the mix on UK's next possession. It would have set up a field goal attempt but the United Kingdom sideline was flagged for complaining to the officials pushing them too far away for an attempt. He also has 118 total tackles and 21 tackles for loss over that spanNorthwestern and Clayton Thorson spread the ball around to a number of targets this season, but sophomore Bennett Skowronek emerged as the most unsafe threat at wide receiver.

Northwestern got the ball to start the second half of the Music City Bowl.
