IPhone Battery Replacement Program Could Hurt Apple's Sales: Barclays

According to company analyst Mark Moskowitz, a whopping 77% or 519 million iPhone users are eligible to replace their battery via the program. Those models now make up 77 percent of the iPhone market, meaning even a small percentage of owners opting for a new battery instead of a new iPhone will result in a significant fall in iPhone sales. The new battery replacement programme is eligible for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

But it might be bad for Apple's bottom line, analysts at Barclays wrote in a note on Wednesday.

An Apple store or fix shop will pop the hood of your iPhone 6, 6s, SE or 7 and swap out the battery.

The 6.46-inch OLED iPhone should have the largest battery capacity of the devices, but it'll also have a substantially larger display with even higher pixel density than the display on the 5.85-inch model will, Kuo says.

Why is Apple replacing iPhone batteries for only £25? "Maybe this will serve as a positive lesson to Apple about the value of openness and transparency - things it has long lacked". At first, testing proved that the performance was not being throttled, but it missed a key factor: battery age.
