Husband Charged With Murder of Trans Woman in MA

According to the autopsy report, Christa Leigh suffered from blunt force trauma to her head and a stab wound on her torso.

Christa Steele-Knudslien, the founder of the Miss Trans America pageant, was found stabbed and beaten to death inside the North Adams home she shared with her husband. Her husband came to the Adams Police Department, spoke to an officer, reportedly saying he had done something and deserved to be in handcuffs.

Her husband Mark Steele-Knudslien confessed to the murder.

He is being held without bail and "did admit to the murder", police Sergeant Scott McWhirt told the Boston Globe. According to reports, he says he and his wife got into an argument and he "snapped", stabbing her with a knife and hitting her with a hammer.

Following the brief arraignment before Judge Paul Vrabel in Northern Berkshire District Court, neither defense attorney Nathaniel Green nor Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Gregory Barry had any comment on the case. According to the Berkshire Eagle, police in Adams, Massachusetts were called to the couple's home on several occasions for "neighborhood" issues before they moved to North Adams past year.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for February 7th.

This is the first murder in the city since 2013.

"Our hearts are deeply saddened by the news of Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien's tragic and untimely death, " the posting reads. In addition to founding Miss Trans America, she also produced the regional Miss Trans New England pageant (as well as others).

Reading Christa Leigh's Facebook page is a sad affair.
