Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator and Volvo XC60 Take top Honors at NAIAS

The award for the 2018 vehicle of the year went to the Honda Accord, the Lincoln Navigator was named truck of the year, and the Volvo XC60 won utility of the year at the North American International Auto Show on Monday.

The Honda Accord was named North American Car of the Year (NACOY), the Lincoln Navigator was named North American Truck of the Year (NATOY), and the Volvo XC60 was named North American Utility of the Year. This is the 24th year the awards have been handed out. Arcangeli calls the Accord "new from the ground up", with more coupe-like styling and its first-ever turbocharged engines.

Among the Kia Stinger, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the Accord was the victor, thanks to a sleek design and fun-to-drive handling. The Volvo XC60 and Honda Civic both took top honors in 2016.

The XC60 offers much of the luxury of Volvo's higher-end XC90, at a lower price, the jurors said.

The Lincoln Navigator was completely re-engineered for the first time in the model's history. The Navigator beat out the Chevrolet Colorado and its Ford Expedition brother. The General Motors luxury brand sold 14,700 Escalades previous year.

To be eligible for the awards, a vehicle had to be new or substantially changed for the current year.

Sixty automotive journalists serve as judges.

Last year's winners included the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Honda Ridgeline and Chrysler Pacifica.
