'Home and Away' actress has life support machine turned off after crash

On Thursday night, Jessica had her life support switched off weeks after the horrific accident on the New South Wales south coast, making her the fifth victim of the Boxing Day crash that killed her parents and sister.

As Jessica fought for life in the Intensive Care Unit at St George Hospital, her family had been by her side and it is being reported she was surrounded by her loved ones when the decision was made to switch off the life support.

Jessica's parents Lars and Vivian were killed instantly in the crash and her sister Annabelle died in hospital three days later.

"On behalf of everyone involved with HARMONY we are completely devastated to hear of the passing of our lead actress, the incredible Jessica Falkholt", the post read.

Vivian and Lars were killed on impact, as was the driver of the other auto - 50-year-old Craig Whitehall.

Annabelle died as a result of her injuries last Tuesday.

She had reportedly undergone several surgeries, including the removal of a kidney and part of her skull, but remained in a coma since the accident. "I just keep hoping that I'll wake up from this awful nightmare and see her gorgeous eyes looking back at me". Whitehall had previously received a nine-year driving ban and racked up at least 10 convictions for driving while disqualified.

Vivian's younger brother, Paul Ponticello, spoke at the funeral service where he thanked people who ran to the family's aid.

Paul Ponticello, Vivian's brother, gave a eulogy at the funeral.

"We take a little comfort in knowing they will be together".

Commenting on the tragedy, a Twitter user lamented: "So sad to hear about Jessica Falkholt, who was Hope in Home And Away, and her family's fatal auto accident".

While the actress is best known for her appearance in long-running soap Home And Away, she enjoyed minor roles in Aussie dramas Underbelly: Badness and Tricky Business.
