Donald Trump to attend Davos forum

Donald Trump to attend Davos forum

The gathering at an Alpine ski resort is a redoubt of globalist, free-trade thinking starkly at odds with Trump's worldview.

The White House didn't immediately say which US officials would be traveling with Mr. Trump.

Sanders said the president welcomed the opportunity to promote his "America First" agenda with world leaders. Onetime Trump adviser Anthony Scaramucci also appeared in a panel at Davos previous year.

Administration spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump was eager to attend the meeting of world leaders and business execs.

The annual meeting is scheduled to take place January 23-26, focused on the theme "Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World".

In a separate statement, Klaus Schwab, the founder of the forum, said Trump would offer a "direct perspective" on the U.S.'s priorities and that the president would be accompanied by key Cabinet ministers and USA lawmakers.

This year's event will put Trump in the same room as numerous global elites he attacked during his 2016 campaign.

The first sitting USA president to appear in the Swiss resort was Bill Clinton in 2000, at the forum's 30th-anniversary session.

President George Bush - father and son - never came to the village in the Swiss mountains, and President Barack Obama also never appeared at the conference.

The Global Economic Forum was founded in 1971 by Klaus Schwab, a business professor at the University of Geneva.
