Detective Pikachu lands on the Nintendo eShop and at retail in March

A special limited-edition oversized amiibo of Detective Pikachu will also be released at launch. An action-adventure title, Detective Pikachu finds the hero of the title - a unique Pikachu in the Pokémon world - partnering with Tim Goodman and searching for evidence and clues to solve a series of cases, whilst also investigating the disappearance of Tim's father, Harry Goodman. Sadly, Ryan Reynolds does not appear to be voicing Pikachu.

The first trailer for Detective Pikachu is certainly a little different.

For those of you who've been waiting, it's finally happening.

A new amiibo will release alongside Detective Pikachu, and it stands head-and-shoulders above other amiibo. It still works like a standard amiibo, though - plop its hefty stand onto your 3DS' NFC reader and it will unlock short videos that could help get you past some tough spots.

If you're wondering why Detective Pikachu can talk, well, that's not really explained. This new game, which is simply called Detective Pikachu, will feature all of the content from Birth of a New Duo (along with new content as well), bringing western players up to speed on the story so far. It's a shame Pikachu took this long to start drinking coffee, because he and I could've been buddies a long time ago rather than just being a cute, cuddly icon for one of gaming's biggest franchises.

Detective Pikachu will arrive on March 23rd, 2018, and will arrive for the Nintendo 3DS. Detective Pikachu will hopefully get to the bottom of Nintendo's long running amiibo stock issues when the game releases for North America and Europe on March 23.
