Black Widow standalone movie gets a scriptwriter

But Black Widow never got her own standalone film, no matter how many times fans asked for one.

However, as reported by The Wrap, "Blacklist" screenwriter Schaeffer has been hired by Marvel to work on a script, suggesting it could eventually become a reality.

Schaeffer is the writer behind films such as "The Shower", which has Anne Hathaway now attached as a star as well as "Nasty Women", her remake of the film "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", which is expected to also star Hathaway as well as Rebel Wilson. Academy Award-winner Hathaway has also worked with Schaeffer on forthcoming release Nasty Women, a revamped female-driven take on Steve Martin and Michael Caine's 1988 comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

When Black Widow was last spotted, in "Captain America: Civil War", she had gone on the run from the U.S. government after helping Captain America and Winter Soldier escape to track down Helmut Zemo. At the whims of other writers and directors who weren't giving the character the spotlight, Black Widow became nearly too malleable in the process.

Scarlett Johansson is set to return as Black Widow which is a role she first got in 2010 following the release of Iron Man 2.

The standalone film starring as the titular spy turned Avenger has taken one step closer after Marvel locked down a writer. Schaeffer's script, titled The Shower, which was put on The Black List a few years ago, is now currently in development.

What would you like to see in a standalone Black Widow film? She rose to popularity after she showcased her unique talents as an agent on "Avengers" and other subsequent films that focus on the heroic team.

Marvel can't keep this secret for too long though and with Avengers: Infinity War coming later this year, I think if there is anything to announce, they will do so before then. A Black Widow film likely wouldn't arrive for at least a couple of years. He added, "We think she's an incredible character".
