Astros acquire Gerrit Cole from Pirates, trade complete?

According to Jon Morosi, the trade is imminent and has been gaining momentum since yesterday.

The report comes after weeks of speculation that Cole could be headed to the New York Yankees. The Astros would appear set to open the season with a rotation of Dallas Keuchel, Justin Verlander, Cole, Lance McCullers and Charlie Morton if the trade is completed. This is not a one-year rental, and Houston landed a proven arm who is just 27 years old. He didn't flinch under the pressure and posted a 2.45 ERA in those contests.

Though Cole is coming off his worst season - 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA in 33 starts - he is capable of being an elite starter. Looking ahead to 2018, Cole will likely slide in as Houston's third starter, but he's a fine addition as an SP2 in 15-team leagues. But this is a clear suggestion that the Pirates are in rebuild mode.

While the Pirates focus on the future, Houston can turn its attention toward its World Series defense with another formidable pitcher in tow.
