Arsenal's Francis Coquelin to join Valencia, says Wenger

"Francis Coquelin has agreed to join La Liga side Valencia", a statement on Arsenal's website read on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday we covered claims from Valencia that a transfer is so close, the Arsenal midfielder could play for his new club at the weekend.

The 26-year old midfielder has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at Mestalla, which includes a reported €80million release clause.

"He went from, I remember my first game was at Man City and I called him the police officer or something like that because he was shielding everything". Arsenal are now without a host of first-team options in midfield and suffered a further setback as Jack Wilshere went off against Chelsea with an ankle injury.

The French midfielder has been at Arsenal for nearly a decade but appearances in the first team this season have been limited with just seven starts in all competitions. It wasn't to be and now this opportunity has come up.

This proposed move is definitely the latter as Francis Coquelin's likely exit from Arsenal has gone from rumour to nearly completed within just a few days.

"He has an ankle sprain and the first look at it was not too bad, but of course for Sunday I think he will be short".

Coquelin, who has not made a senior appearance for the France national team, was presented by Valencia this afternoon. I respect Cazorla's opinion a lot, so when he told me this, he convinced me.

The player could make his debut when Valencia face Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.
