Suspect charged in 2010 murder of Lorenzen Wright

Wright was a native of Atlanta but visiting the Memphis area when his body went missing in summer 2010.

Billy Turner, 46, was arrested and indicted on the charge of first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond, as the D.A. told the website that the investigation into the case continues.

Before he disappeared, Wright was at the home of his ex-wife, Sherra Robinson Wright.

Memphis police announced last month they had found a gun in a MS lake about 75 miles east of the city that they believed to be connected with Wright's murder, Commercial Appeal reports. Authorities say a man has been charged in the 2010 slaying of former National Basketball Association player Lorenzen Wright. Later she told authorities that she saw him leave with drugs and money.

The star athlete, then 34, had been shot multiple times. He averaged 8 points per game and more than 6 rebounds per game during his career. She also says that she overheard him saying on the phone that he was going to "flip something for $110,000", and that she watched him get into a vehicle with someone she was unable to identify. Authorities said they heard a man cursing, followed by number gunshots on the call, according to The New York Times.

According to Sports Illustrated, the 9-11 dispatcher did not report anything to a supervisor until eight days after she received the call from Wright with audible gunshots. Soon after, police offered a $21,000 reward for information about the case. "She's hoping to find an answer", Governor Bill Haslam said.

The corpse was badly decomposed, weighing 57 pounds (25 kilograms).Wright's playing weight was around 225 pounds (100 kilograms).
