Southampton player defends Manchester City's Guardiola over pep talk

Guardiola was captured on camera addressing Southampton star Redmond enthusiastically at full-time, an incident which had everyone second guessing about what was said during the heated exchange.

Guardiola was seen yelling at Redmond just moments after Raheem Sterling last-gasp victor and some reports claimed the Spaniard had called the forward a "w****r".

The Spaniard did have qualms with the Southampton playing style, according to Redmond, and perhaps the reason he appeared to be so agitated was that the visitors' tactics did not allow for the full array of talent in their side to be expressed, while simultaneously frustrating Guardiola and his team.

Guardiola was quite hands on when speaking to Redmond, with many wondering what exactly what said.

"He was very passionate, intense and aggressive - but he was only very complimentary and positive to me", the 23-year-old later said on social media.

Pep Guardiola regrets pushing Nathan Redmond and concedes he is incapable of controlling his emotions during and after matches.

"Southampton have some super-talented players, Redmond is so good one-against-one".

'But they didn't want to play, they were time wasting from the ninth minute.

City host West Ham at the Etihad on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Premier League.

"I played against millions in managers and the different ways they play", he said.

He added: "It was an astonishing end to the game". Today, he could not attack because they defended all the time.

"They had chances in the first half, all the teams are better than us at set-pieces". All the managers want to help their players because if they play bad we'll be sacked.

"What impresses the most is the heart with which they play". "Last season he destroyed us here".
