Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria condemns alleged Love-Jihad murder

As is the case with earlier videos of lynching, for example of the dairy farmer Pehlu Khan, Shambhulal's video of the murder followed by his hate speech, justifying the act, too went "viral" on WhatsApp.

The half-burnt body of the victim was found on a deserted road after locals alerted the police.

The killing of 48-year-old West Bengal migrant Mohammed Afrazul in Rajsamand on the 25th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition is the latest hate crime against Muslims in Rajasthan, the statement said.

Shambhu Lal had allegedly brought the man to a secluded place on the pretext of providing him work.

"Despite knowing the consequences, he made the video viral", said Kataria.

"You jihadis, this is the fate that awaits you". The alleged perpetrator, Shambunath Raigar, was arrested on Thursday even as the victim's family demanded death for the accused. Rajasthan DGP, OP Galhotra told reporters: "This is a brutal crime. I have seen the video and the cries of my helpless father while he was being killed".

It is one of the worst crimes in the recent upsurge of attacks suffered by India's Muslim and Hindu lower caste communities. Aren't CM Raje, CM Chouhan, CM Rupani, CM Adityanath complicit in this hate crime since they augmented the narrative echo of the bigotry that's resulted in Afrazul's horrific murder? "Lynching of this kind is a growing phenomenon in many parts of the country", Mander told Al Jazeera. The alleged communal angle is also being probed. The cops are also trying to locate the family members of the victim.

A Special Investigation Team was set up by the Rajasthan government to investigate the murder. "Any person will be disturbed by the video".

Raigar has been found to be heavily influenced by the propaganda material circulated by right wing organisations on the social media, though he had no formal membership of any of these outfits.

Mander said that people do not feel that reported cases are held to any sort of accountability. The public prosecutor sought police remand for five days with the plea that the interrogation of the accused was continuing and the investigating officer had to confirm the chain of events.
