NFL Suspends Rob Gronkowski for Late Hit

The NFL suspended New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski one game on Monday for a late, gratuitous hit to the head of Bills defensive back Tre'Davious White. If a ban is announced today, it would allow Gronkowski time to have a potential appeal heard before the Patriots get too far into practice for next week's game.

"Your actions were not incidental, could have been avoided and placed the opposing player at risk of serious injury", Runyan said in the press release. Gronkowski apologized for the hit after the game.

But don't expect Bill Belichick to be waiting for a decision from the National Football League before he starts game-planning for Monday's game against the Dolphins.

White entered the National Football League concussion protocol after the hit from Gronkowski, which drew an unnecessary roughness penalty but no ejection on Sunday. "It was a lot of frustration and I was just really frustrated at that moment and it just happened naturally through emotions and frustration".

"I definitely want to apologize to number 27", he said, referring to White.

For example, they are particularly deep at running back, so Gronkowski's absence could lead to more two-running-back groupings in certain situations; they've had a couple of big plays in recent weeks with both Rex Burkhead and James White on the field at the same time.

Still, as much as coach Bill Belichick will want to ignore it all and move on to the next game, there are some key talking points about the Patriots for the coming days that have zero to do with what the scoreboard said at the end of Sunday's 23-3 victory over the Buffalo Bills. This year, he has caught 55 passes for 849 yards and seven touchdowns.

"I kind of felt like he pushed me a little bit and made the play, and I just don't understand why there wasn't a flag", Gronkowski said of the play. And then they don't call that? "It was just frustration, and that's what happened".
