Netflix to Make 6th Season of 'House of Cards'

Sarandos made the comment during a panel at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in NY, also confirming that Season 6, the final installment of the political drama, will consist of eight episodes, down from the usual 13.

Robin Wright will star in the concluding season, and the drama series will resume its production in early 2018, Sarandos stated.

Sarandos said the final season would star Robin Wright in the lead.

For a landmark show like House of Cards, embroiled in a conflict, that is about as good as we could've hoped for. The final season will feature only eight episodes, instead of the usual 13. The streaming giant similarly decided not to move forward with a film starring Spacey as Gore Vidal.

The star, who plays president Frank Underwood in the show, came under scrutiny after a late October expose accused him of forcing himself upon actor Anthony Rapp when he was only 14 years old.

These include two investigations by police in the United Kingdom into allegations against the actor.

Production of the series will resume in January.

Wright's character, Claire Underwood, finished season five by winning election as the first US female president after wresting power from her husband.

Finding a way forward for Season 6 was not only important so that fans could have closure, but also so those on the crew of House of Cards would still have jobs.

Spacey has been replaced by Christopher Plummer in the Ridley Scott biopic about oil tycoon J Paul Getty.
