Microsoft Edge on Android now over 500K installs, more regions added

After introducing a closed testing programme, edge is finally available for public on Android and iOS.

We are pleased to announce that we're removing the "preview" label from our Android and iOS app.

The headline feature is undoubtedly Continue on PC, which makes it easy for users to transfer their browsing activity from their phones to a desktop or laptop running Windows 10.

KitGuru Says: Considering Microsoft has had its Edge browser out on desktop for the best part of two-and-a-half years, it's been quite slow to the mark with mobile. Do you plan on downloading the app?

As planned, its "continue on PC" feature is the centrepiece, allowing mobile users to switch seamlessly from using their browser on smartphone, picking up where they left off on PC. Edge's only unique capability is the option of opening your current webpage on another device. The company also shared a promotional video and some other interesting details, saying Edge has been downloaded by "hundreds of thousands" and will be available in more regions soon.

As for availability, Microsoft Edge for iOS will be available in the United States (English), China (Simplified-Chinese), France (French) and the UK (English). More languages will be added over time. "We are committed to empowering people and organizations to achieve more".

The new app works on Android smartphones and tablets, but the iOS version is iPhone only for now. "We have a long list of new features to build and improvements to make".
