Jimbo Fisher accepts head coach position at Texas A&M

After weeks of speculation about Jimbo Fisher possibly leaving his head football coach position at Florida State, the Tallahassee Democrat reports that Jimbo Fisher is headed to Texas.

Fisher will not coach the Seminoles this Saturday in their regular season finale against Louisiana-Monroe.

Florida State is reportedly already vetting candidates to replace Fisher.

Per a person in Fisher's final meeting with his players, the former head coach apologized for misleading his team.

"Coach Fisher did an exceptional job as both an assistant coach at FSU and in the challenging role of successor to the legendary Bobby Bowden", Florida State president John Thrasher said in a statement.

FSU CB Levonta Taylor (via Twitter): "Just want to thank Jimbo for all he has done for me and the program I wish the best for you in Texas!" They'll hire a great coach. With the victory, the Seminoles moved to 6-6 on the season and became bowl-eligible, extending the streak to 36 straight seasons ending with a bowl game.

The Aggies fired Kevin Sumlin on November 26 after six seasons. "I know he did an unbelievable job at Florida State". The school's lone national championship came in 1939. We believe that we should compete for SEC championships on an annual basis and, at times, national championships. Odell Haggins coached the Seminoles to the victory. And I guess we'll see [Fisher] next year, if that's what he's going to do.

Fisher spent eight seasons as the head coach at Florida State and guided the program to the 2013 national championship. The excitement around Florida State is indisputable, and a tremendous opportunity awaits whoever is chosen as our new head football coach.

"Obviously, he feels like it's the right move for him".
