ESPN's Herm Edwards Hired As Arizona State's Head Football Coach

ESPN's Herm Edwards Hired As Arizona State's Head Football Coach

Bringing in Edwards to run the football program has created a stir nationally and within the Sun Devils' fan base.

Edwards, who will oversee the New Leadership Model, arrives in Tempe with a football legacy that has impacted thousands, whether as a player, coach, analyst, motivational speaker and author, or community advocate and philanthropist.

Arizona State University has named Herm Edwards head football coach. Edwards' last college coaching job was at San Jose State in 1989, where he was defensive backs coach.

"Passion for my faith, my family and my occupation as a football coach are the things that have driven me back to the grass", Edwards said in a statement. The school's athletic director and Edwards's former agent Ray Anderson is convinced that this will be a successful idea. It will include sport and administrative divisions to manage the football program, and resource sharing and strategic planning between the two sides.

He accumulated a 54-74 record in the National Football League with four trips to the playoffs and two career playoff wins.

Yeahhhh ... despite literally being surrounded by tridents and Sparky and about to do work at Sun Devil Stadium, Edwards seems blissfully unaware of the school's mascot. Edwards played at Cal and San Diego State before spending most of his 10-year National Football League playing career with the Eagles. "I am very excited and humbled to be the Arizona State head football coach".

Arizona State fired Todd Graham on November 26 after his sixth season at the helm. His estimated buyout is $12 million. "I don't think anyone on staff was satisfied with that".

During his introductory press conference on Monday, he got a question from a Devils Digest reporter before Edwards, seemingly surprised by the name of the publication, cut him off to make a joke and let him know he's a Christian man.
