Chandimal left out of ODI squad

The team was to play a 3-match series against India, beginning from December 10. Which is why Malinda Pushpakumara, who was scheduled to replace Rangana Herath for the third Test against Delhi, was not conidered and as a result, Jeffrey Vandersay had to be flown in.

Sri Lanka have lost 21 one-dayers in the calendar year and won only four matches.

Sri Lankan selectors on Tuesday left out the Test captain from the ODI squad, as all-rounder Asela Gunaratne and opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka return to the side.

Generally, all squads chosen to represent Sri Lanka are approved by the minister of sports without any reservations, but in recent times, the ministry has stressed on minimum fitness standards for the cricket team.

In one of the most rarest instances in cricket, nine members of the the Sri Lankan ODI squad, including newly-appointed captain Thisara Perera who arrived at the airport to head to India were told to head back home. The SLC press release that included the squad had this as explanation: "due to delay in submitting the list of selected players to the ratification of the honourable minister as per regulations of the Sports Law owing to a long weekend, the selected players were unable to travel to India yesterday as was originally scheduled, and will depart today instead".

The visitors will play a three-match ODI series starting on December 10 at Dharamsala.

Thisara Perera (capt.), Upul Tharanga, Danushka Gunathilaka, Lahiru Thirimanne, Angelo Mathews, Asela Gunaratne, Niroshan Dickwella, Chaturanga de Silva, Akila Dananjaya, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushmantha Chameera, Sachith Pathirana and Kusal Perera. He will strengthen the batting order alongside Mathews, the former skipper who came back after having missed the last ODI series against Pakistan through injury.
