Bashir Addresses Islamic Summit, Reiterates Rejection to US Decision On Al - Quds

The extraordinary summit, themed "Unified Action in Solidarity with Al-Quds" was convened at the request of Turkey President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan in his capacity as the Chair of the 13th Islamic Summit, following the announcement by the United States on Dec 6 to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Calling upon Muslim leaders to play their part, Prime Minister Abbasi said that the Muslim leaders needed serious introspection. "We need a diplomatic solution".

He said, "Diplomatically if the UN Security Council is unable to respond, we should garner support in the UN General Assembly".

The premier also recommended that the OIC decisions regarding economic actions against the Israeli occupational forces must be followed up upon to change their behaviour.

"It's not possible to approve a decision that is rejected by the entire world".

"A Turkish Airlines flight, carrying the president and his entourage, left Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport at about 10:35pm to join the special OIC summit in Istanbul", president's Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin told BSS.

According to the Palestinian president, the decision could be used by extremists to "turn a political struggle into a religious one".

Trump also said he would put plans in motion to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, though he also signed a six-month waiver placing the move on hold.

"The US administration should give up its role in the peace process, and if the US does not step back, it will be responsible for all the consequences", the declaration states. "Because it is completely biased towards Israel", he said.

"The OIC strongly condemns the unilateral action by the United States to recognise Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as the capital city of Israel, which is not valid under global law and historically".

"From now on, it is out of the question for a biased United States to be a mediator between Israel and Palestine, that period is over", Erdoğan said, according to Reuters.

"It is Trump who bestowed this award even", he said.

The two leaders discussed the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. Together with the OIC and the Islamic world, the prime minister said, Pakistan had always demonstrated its solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate aspirations for a promised homeland.

Not to forget, the Chief Minister has had successful meetings with the President Erdogan in the past as well on different occasions during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Punjab.
