Arkansas reportedly reaches deal with SMU coach Chad Morris

The University of Arkansas officially announced the hire of Chad Morris as the 33rd head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks at approximately 1:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017.

In his first year at SMU, the Mustangs went 2-10.

Morris and Malzahn will have their first meeting as fellow SEC head coaches on September 22 next season on the Plains in Auburn. He led Lake Travis High School to back-to-back undefeated seasons and state championship in Texas' highest level of competition. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Clemson from 2011-2014.

Morris previously spent a year as Tulsa's offensive coordinator, but where he really made his name was in the high school ranks in Texas. His connections throughout the Lone Star State could prove to be a big boost for Arkansas in recruiting.

"The future is tremendously bright at the University of Arkansas with the addition of Chad Morris", Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek said in a statement. Long was the man who hired Bielema away from Wisconsin following the 2012 regular season in what was considered a major coup for the Razorbacks at the time.

The Razorbacks fired head coach Bret Bielema last month after a 4-8 finish in his fifth season. Instead, he signed a lucrative extension to remain with the Tigers. "I am pleased that Hunter Yurachek had the opportunity to be involved in the final decision and offer and we can not wait to have Chad leading our program".
