Apple TV Adds Amazon Prime Video

Apple TV Adds Amazon Prime Video

This decision will hopefully end a feud between Apple and Amazon, with Amazon refusing to sell Apple's streaming box unless Apple TV made Prime Video available. This includes 4K TV and movies, for those who are using an Apple TV 4K - a helpful feature, as Amazon Video is one of the few streaming apps to offer 4K HDR content at no additional charge.

Once you've downloaded the Amazon Prime Video app it will be relatively easy for you to get it up and running as you control the content you put on screen through the Apple TV App or Siri Remote.

- Watch on your Apple TV directly by downloading the separate tvOS app (requires Apple TV 3rd generation or later). Apple TV users will also be able to access Amazon Channels in the US, UK, Germany and Austria.

A source that has personal knowledge of the matter revealed basically what pushed Google to pull YouTube from Amazon devices is the fact that Amazon opted to promote a technically hacked version of the site instead of reaching out to them in an effort to ultimately sort this out.

The exact cause of the bad blood between the two companies has never been confirmed but many speculate the similarity between the Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV devices is the main reason. Unless a truce is reached, YouTube will stop working on Fire TV on January 1.

Ostensibly, Google and Amazon run different types of businesses. If that happens, Fire TV owners can still watch on a phone, tablet or personal computer. Yes, that's correct: Amazon Prime Video on Apple TV is finally a reality. Although Amazon has gotten better about promoting rival services, video available through Prime remains prominent.

At least for now it seems they have put the rivalry behind them.

How many subscriptions do you have to watch content on your television?

"Making the situation even more unusual is that when I first installed the Amazon Video app yesterday, shows were appearing with the 5.1 header information on them". For cheaper models, you can get that through Roku's smartphone app.

Whether this is all offset by Apple's 4K pledge to upgrade existing HD purchases to 4K depends on how much you already have in your iTunes library, but it's nonetheless irritating that, having spent this much on a streamer, you might have to switch to another device to access The Great British Bake Off in HD.

Amazon said in a statement, "Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website". Most of the companies making these devices also have their own streaming services.
