Amazon Prime Video launches on Apple TV

Amazon Prime Video launches on Apple TV

Amazon stopped selling Apple TV players on their website a couple years ago, and, Apple TV hasn't fully supported Amazon Video or Prime Video on Apple TV and iOS devices. Prime Video further expands the library of TV shows and movies available in 4K HDR on Apple TV 4K.

The app was originally announced at Apple's World Wide Developer's Conference in June this year, but both Apple and Amazon had remained tight-lipped on the exact launch date until today.

Starting Thursday, Prime Video subscribers can also watch Thursday Night Football live through the app.

Netflix, HBO and more were available on Apple TV so it wasn't as if the company was overly concerned about Amazon streams cutting into iTunes movie sales and rentals. We're downloading the app now and will update with hands-on impressions.

Ever since its first iteration, one of the Apple TV's major weaknesses has been its lack of an Amazon Video app. Apple listened to customer complaints, and promised way back in September that the service would make its way to the premium streaming box in question. The app is integrated with Apple TV to allow for searching via the Siri remote, and Apple TV's universal search functionality. As of this morning, however, Apple TV is still not available on Amazon. Whether or not that changes once the relationship between the two companies improves, however, remains to be seen. It wasn't until relatively recently at WWDC 2017 when Apple and Amazon belatedly said they had reached an agreement to develop a dedicated tvOS app for the Apple TV. Let us know down in the comments.
