€100m Griezmann given green light to leave Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone says Antoine Griezmann will be allowed to leave Atletico Madrid if the right opportunity comes along.

The French forward remained at the club for an extra season after they were handed a transfer ban, despite being heavily linked with Manchester United.

The Sun report Simeone said: "Of course Griezmann will be able to leave at some point, the same way (Diego) Costa and Arda Turan were allowed to leave".

"I love my players a lot and I love to see them grow", Simeone told L'Equipe.

"I know that he needs to grow".

Spanish worldwide Costa has since returned to Atletico from Chelsea and will be available to play when their transfer embargo is lifted in January, which could help fill the hole up front should Griezmann leave.

"In January players can come in, players can leave".

The French worldwide signed a contract extension with Atletico back in June shortly after the club's summer transfer ban from Federation Internationale de Football Association was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, a ban that'll be lifted in January.

At a news conference on Friday, Simeone suggested that Griezmann would return from a week out with a minor hamstring problem to start in Saturday evening's La Liga game at home to struggling Alaves.

The Catalonian's are still searching for their Neymar replacement, and a player with the stature of Griezmann would be just about as good as it gets - and a remarkably simpler transfer than that of summer target Philippe Coutinho.

"As much as I repeat that I am delighted at Atletico, I have a great coach and great team-mates, they regularly ask me about my future".

"I don't speak about players - especially players who belong to other clubs".
